Orthotics

 What we do

We treat and rehabilitate patients through the assessment and provision of an orthosis which will either remedy or relieve the condition, disability or developmental problem, and may prevent further deterioration of more disabling conditions.  An orthosis is a brace or splint designed to support the limbs or spine to prevent or assist movement.

In addition we offer a continuing programme of maintenance, repair and reassessment of need, once the orthosis has been supplied.

Orthotists assess and treat a wide range of conditions, which include gait abnormalities, mobility problems and structural problems, and offers a wide range of experience covering clinical areas that include:

  •  Orthopaedics

  •  Paediatric orthopaedics

  •  Paediatric neurology

  •  Adult neurology

  •  Rheumatology

  •  Diabetes

  •  Stroke

  •  Elderly medicine

  •  Sports injuries

The orthotists work within a multdisciplinary team working with physiotherapists, podiatrists, nursing and technicians and in terms of performance management 95% of referrals have successful outcomes.

The department provides a vast range of orthotic hardware including footwear, functional foot orthoses, insoles, ankle orthoses, KAFO’s (full length callipers), spinal, head and neck, abdominal and hosiery etc.
