Special Care Baby Unit

We have ten special care cots, providing short and medium term care for sick and preterm infants. The unit is well serviced with specialised equipment and expertise to provide care for babies who require specialised nursing.

When you can visit

  • Parents, grandparents and baby’s siblings can visit at any time. Other visitors of your family’s choice may visit the unit between 3 - 4pm. We ask that parents accompany all visitors

  • Only 2 visitors per baby at any one time

  • If you or anyone in your family is unwell please contact the unit in advance to discuss your proposed visit

Who you may meet

The team is led by Gail Stanbridge, Ward Manager, supported by additional nursing staff and a housekeeper.

Research and development

We work closely with regional specialist units that may approach patient’s families to participate in research projects.

Related support groups / links

Our parent support group is a voluntary team of people who have had a special care baby and make regular visits to the unit and hold meetings for parents to attend. The contact number for the member on call for the week is available from SCBU on 01423 553188.
