Become a volunteer

Harrogate & District NHS Foundation Trust recognises the tremendous value that volunteers play in the delivery of our key services in a variety of different roles.  We currently have over 550 volunteers giving over 2,000 hours per month of assistance throughout the Trust.  The positive experience of volunteering at Harrogate & District NHS Foundation Trust is reflected in the long service of many of our volunteers who give outstanding years of commitment and dedication.  Many of our younger volunteers return during university holidays to help out.  The enthusiasm and commitment from our team of active volunteers results in a limited availability of roles on offer to new applicants.

We are always happy to hear from new volunteers. We currently have vacancies in the following areas:

  • Meet & Greet Volunteers for the Sir Robert Ogden Macmillan Centre
  • SASH Volunteers to assist in the Sir Robert Ogden Macmillan Centre (experience of hair loss is helpful)

  • Meet and Greet Volunteer, Wednesday mornings in the Eye Clinic

  • Occupational Therapy Volunteer for the Stroke Unit, Tuesday or Thursday Morning

  • Activity Volunteers

  • Meal Time Volunteers - either lunch or evening meal service
  • Fundraising for the Hospital Charity
  • Endoscopy Unit - Friday mornings

Even if this is not the sort of role that you are looking for, please feel free to contact us and we will keep your details on file and endeavour to contact you when other roles become available.

Volunteering roles are open to anyone aged 16 years and over that either lives, works, or attends school or college within the Harrogate District.  We regret that due to an overwhelming demand for opportunities we are unable to accept applications from anyone living outside of the area.

There are two separate intakes for 6th form students wishing to apply for volunteering.  Applications must be in by either 15 April or 15 November of each year.  If your application is outside of these dates it will be held until the next intake. Please note applications for this year's November intake are now closed.  The next student intake will be April 2016.

Volunteers are expected to commit to a minimum of a six month period on a weekly basis giving anything from an hour or two to a full day, depending on the role.  All prospective volunteers are required to undergo an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Check, provide two satisfactory references and attend a volunteer induction session prior to commencing any role.
