I am a retired Solicitor, having worked in private practice in York for many years. I specialised in litigation and conducted many personal injury claims together with a large volume of Legal Aid work in the course of my career. A particular speciality was Mental Health law and I regularly represented patients at Mental Health Tribunals in North Yorkshire.
I was the Senior Coroner for York for over 25 years. I acquired extensive experience of difficult and delicate Inquests and had a particular interest in producing Reports, at the end of Inquests, that may have helped to prevent future deaths.
My interest in Mental Health law led to my appointment as a Tribunal Judge in Mental Health Tribunals. I also sat as a Judge in Social Security Appeal Tribunals (dealing largely with Disability issues) and Tax Tribunals.
Following my retirement I have maintained my interest in the provision of Mental Health services by the NHS and am anxious to see that Harrogate Hospital delivers such services in the most efficient and user-friendly manner.
As a resident of Ripon I wish to be sure that a comprehensive range of NHS services are provided for outlying districts and that the provision is cost-effective.
