Harrogate District Hospital outreach clinics launch at brand new Leeds GP practice

Posted on: Wednesday 23 Mar 2016

Hospital outreach clinics across 17 different specialities will be provided from the new Alwoodley Medical Centre, Leeds, by clinicians from Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust (HDFT) from April 2016.

Alwoodley Medical Centre, on Saxon Mount, off King Lane, opens its doors on 29 March in a brand new building.

The new partnership between GPs at the practice and clinicians from Harrogate District Hospital and community services will provide high quality services closer to people’s homes.

Clinics include gynaecology, radiology, trauma and orthopaedics, audiology, urology and physiotherapy and paediatrics.

HDFT provides hospital and community services across North Yorkshire and north Leeds and is a high quality and high performing organisation.

Dr Kat Johnson, Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist and Clinical Director for Elective Care at Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We are very pleased to be working closely with GP colleagues at Alwoodley Medical Practice to provide these outreach clinics. This is a really positive partnership that brings important services into the heart of the local community. This is a strong step forward and helps the local NHS deliver integrated care close to people’s homes.

“Patients are able to choose to access services here at their local GP practice, saving time and avoiding the potential inconvenience of a trip to hospital. People will still receive the same high quality, professional care as you would in hospital because it is the same members of staff providing the service.

“If patients wish to access these local clinics they should speak to their GP in the first instance for them to make a referral.”

At Alwoodley, two GP practices, Nursery Lane and Moorcroft, are merging at the centre though Adel surgery will remain open for patients in that area. Facilities include 16 consulting rooms and parking for 70 cars, as well as housing more doctors and nurses and offering more specialist services for patients.

Registered patients will be able to see the doctor of their choice and the facility will have the capacity to expand its services and extend its opening hours.
