Orthopaedic Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy

Our Orthopaedic Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy Team treats patients who have traumatic injuries or orthopaedic conditions relating to bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, muscles and nerves. These include hip, knee and shoulder replacements, as well as fractures.

Orthopaedic physiotherapy and occupational therapy

Some patients who have suffered fractures, as well as most patients undergoing routine joint replacement, require therapy input. The conditions and injuries we treat include:

  • Hip, knee, and shoulder replacements
  • Routine joint surgery, such as knee arthroscopies and shoulder stabilisation
  • Fractures, such as those affecting hips and ankles
  • Injuries sustained through falling (these might not necessarily be fractures)

We see patients on our orthopaedic wards, Farndale and Wensleydale, as well as the Day Surgery Unit. We also oversee patients with various conditions on the Harlow Suite. We provide rehabilitation, exercises, advice, walking aids and other equipment to all our patients as required.

We assist patients by demonstrating exercises that can be practised prior to surgery. We also offer advice regarding hospital stays, and what to expect before and after surgery, as well as and after discharge from hospital.

Opening times

We work on the wards everyday between 8am-4pm, seven days a week.

Please note that patients can be seen at any time of the day, including during visiting hours.

Location

There are designated therapists on Wensleydale Ward  and Farndale Ward, at Harrogate District Hospital. The team also covers private patients on Harlow suite as needed.

We accept referrals from the orthopaedic consultants.

Referral

The team work on Blanket referral systems. All inpatients on wards recieve a Therapy Review, if needed.

The team treat private patients on Harlow Suite under Orthopaedic consultants care.
