I qualified at Leeds Medical School in 1978 and undertook house jobs in Scarborough and Leeds. I went immediately into histopathology as a lecturer in pathology at the University of Leeds. I did a fellowship in forensic pathology at Leeds in 1986/87 and qualified DMJ and later MFFLM. I was promoted progressively, reaching the post of consultant/senior lecturer in 1987.
In 1991, I migrated to become a Consultant Histopathologist at Harrogate District Hospital. I have subsequently held various management positions: Chairman of the consultant committee (HMAC); Director of Pathology; Chairman of Local Negotiating Committee (Staff Side); Medical Director 2002-2012. I am currently the Responsible Officer.
In addition to my NHS work, I have an extensive medico-legal practice assisting HM coroners, solicitors, courts, police, the Crown Prosecution Service, the General Medical Council and private companies, including overseas clients. I am in demand as an expert on post mortem examinations, histopathological diagnosis and offences against the person.
