I qualified from St Bartholomew’s Hospital Medical College in 1985. After house jobs in London, I worked in medical specialties in Yorkshire before deciding on a career in Haematology. I was a specialist registrar for 10 years in the Leeds Haematology Training Scheme where my research interest was paroxysmal nocturnal haemoglobinuria. I was appointed as a Consultant Haematologist at Harrogate in 2003 and am now the Clinical Lead for Pathology and Deputy Medical Director. I am a trained Mentor as well as a trustee at St Michael’s Hospice.
