Dr James Storey is a Consultant Acute Physician and Group Clinical Lead for Acute Medicine/SDEC, GP out-of-hours and Medical Day Unit at HDFT having joined the trust in 2021. Prior to this worked as a Consultant in Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust since gaining his CCT in 2012, having completed the majority of his clinical training in the Yorkshire region and Australia, following graduation from University of Leeds Medical School in 2001.
He has held various Leadership and Educational roles across each organisation including Associate Director and Simulation Lead for Medical Education Leeds, Royal College of Physicians College tutor, and Simulation Training Programme Director for Postgraduate School of Medicine for Health Education England Yorkshire & Humber and most recently Yorkshire & Humber Lead for Immersive Healthcare Simulation HEE (now part of NHSE).
He is an experienced facilitator having the role of Course Director for numerous procedural and non-technical skills simulation courses in the region including utilising mixed realities of Virtual and Augmented reality.
He completed his FMLM Advanced Medical Leadership programme in 2019 and a PGCE in clinical Education in 2020.
His areas of interest are utilising Simulation methodology, specifically focusing on the importance on non-technical skills/human factors in healthcare delivery, to improve quality of care, patient safety and the training of all doctors and inter-professional clinicians of the future.
Outside of Medicine, he attempts to raise three daughters and be an obedient husband. In his ‘free time’ he enjoys mastering the art of barbecue cookery, and playing golf with more enthusiasm than skill.
