I am standing for election to the Council of Governors because I am a strong supporter of the core principles of the NHS and a proud resident of Knaresborough. Becoming a Governor at HDFT would allow me to give something back to an organisation and a town that have given me, and my family, so much.

My wife and I have lived in Knaresborough for almost 20 years. Our three teenage boys were born at Harrogate District Hospital and go to school in Knaresborough. Our family has always actively participated in the life ofthe town, from the Bed Race to the Silver Band and more.

I am a former Governor at Meadowside Primary School, which has given me an understanding of how Governing Boards operate, but I am equally keen to learn and to apply myself to the needs of the Foundation Trust.

I work as Marketing Director for a nationwide recruitment business. This role requires a range of skills such as strategic thinking, commercial acumen and effective planning. More important still are my people skills – leadership, collaboration and especially, communication. I have always taken a great interest in what makes people tick, understanding their needs, and working out how those needs can be met. I believe that all these skills will help me to become an effective Governor for HDFT.

In my spare time I enjoy family activities, running, cycling, long walks with the dog and playing trombone for Harrogate Symphony Orchestra.
