I trained at the University of Sheffield between 1979-1984. I then completed my Medical Registrar training at Rotherham District General Hospital, in 1990-1992.
I spent 1992-1998 as Senior Registrar General and Geriatric Medicine at Salford Hospitals and Bolton Hospitals. I was a Consultant Geriatrician at Eastbourne Hospital between 1999-2002 and was part of the NHS locums at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals Trust 2008-2010.
I was involved in an advisory and resource development capacity with HelpAge International Mozambique between 2007-2011 while also working in the development of guidelines for training of medical technicians for the Mozambican Ministry of Health (2010).
