The NHS Staff Survey is one of the largest workforce surveys in the world. It runs every year and asks for the opinions of all 1.3 million NHS staff on their experience of working in the NHS and in their Trust.
In the 2025 survey, we heard from over 3,300 colleagues at Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust (HDFT), which equates to 62% of our workforce. This was an increase of 13% compared with the previous year.
We are very pleased with our results from the 2025 survey as the feedback from HDFT staff is very positive. The responses from the survey feed into the seven NHS People Promises and the two themes of Staff Engagement and Morale. The chart below illustrates that in every area we scored above average compared with similar organisations. We also improved on every element compared with the 2024 Survey.
Two questions in particular give us an indication of the levels of satisfaction amongst the workforce. They are the proportion of colleagues agreeing with the statements, “I would recommend my organisation as a place to work,” and “If a friend or relative needed treatment I would be happy with the standard of care provided by this organisation.”
The proportion of respondents recommending HDFT as a place to work has risen each year for the past four surveys to 67.6%. The proportion saying that they would be happy with the standard of care at HDFT has risen for three consecutive years to 74.5%, both well above the average score for similar trusts.
