Cardiology team at Harrogate District Hospital had its first ever Super Clinic

On Saturday 8 March, the Cardiology Team at Harrogate District Hospital had its first ever Super Clinic, seeing 52 patients.

This was the first Cardiology Super Clinic at HDFT (and the region) and its aim was to reduce Cardiology Outpatient waiting times, which had  seen a steady increase in patients waiting without an appointment since October 2023.

A main focus for the Super Clinic was to improve the 18 week position by setting up a One-Stop Service – providing the opportunity for patients to attend for an echocardiogram and see a consultant for the results, which would reduce the number of patients requiring follow up appointments.

Run by a team of three consultants, one nurse specialist, four echo cardiographers, and a number of nurses and other staff, the superclinic proved to be a real success and we were delighted to receive positive feedback from our patients.

The Cardiology Super Clinic, follows one held by the Urology Team in December 2024.

Dr Tran, Lead for Outpatients at HDFT said:

“Dr Bouchard, Consultant Cardiologist, was instrumental in leading the first Cardiology Super Clinic in the Humber and North Yorkshire region; without her vision and hard work, it wouldn’t have been possible.

“Alongside the help of Caroline Reid, the Cardiology Service Manager, they managed to see patients who otherwise would have had to wait months for an appointment, and feedback was overwhelmingly positive.”

Dr Bouchard, Consultant Cardiologist said:

“I’m so grateful to have had the support of the Cardiology Department. The cardiology super clinic was a resounding success.

“The whole department (clinical and managerial staff) all came together beautifully to ensure optimal and effective care was provided to patients.”
