People urged to know their numbers with blood pressure tests as part of Know Your Numbers Week

Blood pressure tests are being offered to patients, visitors and staff at Harrogate District Hospital as part of Know Your Numbers Week, with people being urged to know their numbers.

Staff from Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust’s Cardiorespiratory Department and Cardiac Nurse Team are encouraging members of the public and colleagues to know their numbers as part of the week – led by charity Blood Pressure UK – with opportunities for blood pressure testing in the main entrance of Harrogate District Hospital and in the department.

Those who have a test completed will be provided with a ticket containing numbers, and offered advice by staff or recommended to make an appointment with their GP as appropriate.

Charity Blood Pressure UK is calling for the believed nearly six million people living in the UK who have undiagnosed high blood pressure to get tested as part of the nationwide Know Your Numbers Week (9-15 September).

Emma Edgar, Clinical Lead Nurse for Cardiology with Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We’re proud to be supporting Blood Pressure UK’s Know Your Numbers Week this week, and are offering blood pressure tests and advice to our patients, visitors and colleagues.

“It’s really important that people know their numbers, as consistently high blood pressure can ultimately lead to a heart attack or stroke and long term health conditions.”

Know Your Numbers! Week is the UK’s biggest free blood pressure testing event held at ‘Pressure Stations’ around the country. The campaign encourages people to have their blood pressure measured so they can take the steps needed to maintain a healthy blood pressure and to keep them feeling well. Blood Pressure UK is the only charity solely dedicated to lowering the nation’s blood pressure to prevent disability and death from stroke and heart disease.
