Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Service

The Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Service is a specialist, non-medical service working with adults who have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, which was previously known as ME. Our aim is to help people understand the nature of their condition and to manage fatigue and other symptoms effectively so they can live full lives.

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Service

Our Team works specifically with people who have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS/ME). This is a long-term condition characterised primarily by severe fatigue which affects the ability to do everyday tasks. CFS/ME is diagnosed when fatigue is clinically unexplainable and cannot be attributed to clinical conditions, severe obesity, drug/alcohol dependence or severe mental illness.

We are based in Harrogate District Hospital and offer appointments on an outpatient basis. We also have an outreach clinic at Skipton General Hospital for people living in the Craven area.

Our main base is at Harrogate District Hospital:

Harrogate District Hospital
Lancaster Park Road

We run outreach clinics in the Aire Unit, Skipton General Hospital:

Skipton General Hospital
Keighley Road
BD23 2RJ

Referrals are accepted from GPs or hospital consultants and must include the results of the blood screen for CFS/ME as recommended by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE). This is intended to screen out any underlying condition which requires medical treatment.

Living with Pain Team

We have a sister service which shares some of the same staff and office resources for people managing chronic pain. Further information can be found here.
