GP Out of Hours

GP Out of Hours (GPOOH) provides primary care services for patients in Harrogate and rural district, and the Northallerton and Catterick areas.

The GPOOH service operates at Harrogate District Hospital between 6pm-8am, Monday to Friday, and all day and night on weekends and bank holidays, when GP surgeries are closed. Please ring NHS 111 if you need to use this service.

Our GP Out Of Hours Service at Ripon Community Hospital runs on Saturday and Sunday mornings from 8am-1pm.

Our GP Out Of Hours Service is GP-led and has several advanced practitioners working within the service. Patients access the service by calling NHS 111, and are prioritised on the telephone based on their clinical need. Patients may be offered telephone advice, an appointment at an out-of-hours centre or a home visit.

Aims of the Service

The GPOOH Service aims to provide safe and accessible urgent care for patients when their usual GP practice is closed. By providing the right care at the right time, we hope to reduce hospital admissions, readmissions and attendances at our Emergency Department.

When should I contact the Out Of Hours Service?

The GPOOH Service is an appointment-based service, not a walk-in service. Please ring NHS 111 if you feel unwell and think that you need to urgently see a GP.

The GPOOH Service is for urgent calls only, and not for emergency or routine calls. If you or the patient has a potentially life-threatening illness or injury, please dial 999.
