Patients can choose to have a blood test at Harrogate District Hospital or at the Pharmacy Department located in Sainsbury’s, Wetherby Road, Harrogate. These services do not run on weekends or on public holidays.
In order to have a blood test, it is essential that you have a test request form from your GP or hospital consultant. Please check that all your personal details are correct, as we cannot proceed with your blood test if there are problems with the form.
Blood tests at Harrogate District Hospital
When you arrive, please take a ticket from the ticket dispenser and have a seat in the waiting area. We see patients on a first come, first served basis. However, occasionally we have to give priority to patients requiring urgent samples.
In order to speed up the process, it would be helpful if you could remove your coat or jacket before entering the blood-taking room. When you’re called in, the phlebotomist will ask you to confirm your name and date of birth before beginning the procedure.
Mon, Wed, Thurs, Fri: 8.30am-4.50pm
Please note: To avoid longer queues we suggest visiting at our quieter times: any afternoon or Weds, Thurs & Fri.
The Outpatient Blood Room at Harrogate District Hospital is located on the ground floor, directly past the reception desk from the main entrance, and on your left after the lifts and fracture clinic.

**Please note that due to Coronavirus, changing Government guidelines will affect entry to the Sainsbury’s store in Harrogate. Please check the store opening times and policy before attending.**
Please note that this service is for patients aged 16 and over only.
One of our experienced phlebotomists from Harrogate District Hospital is available to take your blood. Due to space limitations, we use a paging system to avoid the need to queue.
Please note that these sessions are often very busy in between 10.30-11am. The service needs to finish promptly at 11am, and so we recommend that you arrive well before this time to avoid disappointment.
In all cases the results of your blood test will be reported back to the GP or consultant who made the request. Please ensure you discuss any specific questions about the investigations with your doctor as the phlebotomist will be unable to answer any questions that you may have.
