Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) is the provision of same day care for patients who would otherwise be admitted to hospital. The SDEC team provides rapid assessment of medical, surgical and urology patients. We aim to triage referrals, provide early diagnostics and implement treatment plans for patients referred from local GP practices, specialist nurses and the Emergency Department. We liaise with district nurses, social services and other support agencies where necessary.
SDEC aims to assess and treat medical conditions. These conditions include, but are not limited to :- low risk chest pain and cardiac arrhythmia, heart failure, suspected or proven Venous Thromboembolism (VTE) – (pulmonary embolism (PE) and Deep vein thrombosis (DVT), acute headaches, dermatological problems and newly diagnosed diabetes.
Please note that Trust protocol indicates that certain medical conditions should initially be assessed by the Emergency Department rather than SDEC. These include possible cardiac chest pain and stroke.
Our opening hours are 8.30am-8.00pm, Monday to Friday for both medical patients and additionally 9.00am-5.00pm Saturday.
We are based on the Main Corridor of the Ground Floor, Harrogate District Hospital.
Referrals are made to the Acute Referrals Team (ART) Monday to Friday. Referrals can be made from GP’s, Nurse Specialists, Community Matrons, the Emergency Department, Allied Health Professionals, District Nurses and other departments within the Trust.
If available, the Medical Consultant can provide telephone advice to any of the above disciplines.
