December 2025
Kar Yan Chan – Finance Officer
Kar Yan was nominated after receiving excellent feedback from a supplier. A contractual issue had prevented the supplier from being paid for invoices. Kar Yan worked collaboratively with both the supplier and our internal teams to resolve the problem, ensuring payment could finally be made.
Her dedication helped maintain a strong and positive relationship with the supplier during what could have been a very challenging situation, and her support helped prevent them from facing financial difficulty.
Elizabeth Thornton- Staff Nurse, Special Care Baby Unit
Elizabeth was nominated by a family who wished to extend their heartfelt gratitude for the outstanding care she provided to their baby, as well as the kindness and compassion showed to them as parents. They particularly highlighted Elizabeth’s holistic approach, noting how support for parental mental health alongside caring for their baby made a significant difference during an incredibly difficult time. Elizabeth’s thoughtfulness and empathy were deeply appreciated.
Pip Charters – Emergency Department Practice Educator.
Pip was nominated in recognition of her outstanding work as Practice Educator in the Emergency Department. She consistently demonstrates the Trust’s KITE values and is a constant source of support for nursing colleagues, with a genuine passion for developing nurses and CSWs.
Approachable, kind and always willing to help, Pip regularly goes above and beyond—often stepping into the department at short notice and creating valuable learning opportunities from everyday practice. Her inclusive approach fosters fairness, respect and equality, and her dedication and positivity make a meaningful difference to both colleagues and patients.
Alison Harbrect-Parker – Ripon Supervisor.
Alison is always friendly towards staff and patients. She is a valued member of the team at Ripon Hospital as she always goes above and beyond to be of help, for example, on Christmas Day despite the correct food not being delivered and working alone she ensured that all patients and staff had a lovely meal.
Alison is very professional and always willing to offer support wherever she can.
Louise Gilpin – Health Visitor, Westmoreland & Furness Kendal.
Louise was nominated after receiving wonderful feedback from a family she supported. Louise cared for this family from the antenatal period through their baby’s first year, providing continuity, reassurance, and a safe space for them to share their anxieties during a challenging time. The family were so grateful for her kindness and support that they sent her a beautiful handmade card and a small gift to express their thanks.
Louise consistently demonstrates compassion, dedication, and genuine care for the families on her caseload and anyone she encounters.
Becca Collings – Project Coordinator, Harrogate Hospital Community Charity.
Becca was nominated by a colleague in recognition of her outstanding contribution to the success of the Harrogate Hospital & Community Charity 30th Birthday Ball. Her approach to planning and delivering this highly successful event demonstrated exceptional work ethic, attention to detail, and calm professionalism, both in the lead-up and on the evening itself.
Her kindness and integrity were evident throughout, truly living the Trust values even when challenges arose. In addition to supporting vital fundraising, Becca also helped build new connections and potential partnerships, contributing to the charity’s future growth and impact.
Natalie Robertson – Children’s Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner and Wendy Barrell – Children’s Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner
Wendy and Natalie consistently go above and beyond to support children and families, demonstrating the Trust’s values through kindness, integrity, and teamwork. Recently, they supported a family by personally providing a food shop and Christmas gifts when official support was delayed, ensuring the child and parent were cared for over the festive period.
They place families at the heart of every decision, ensure the child’s voice is heard, and travel across the county to provide equitable care. Their dedication, compassion, and commitment make a profound difference to the families they support.
Ruth Kerrigan – Emotional Health & Resilience Nurse, Durham
Ruth has consistently gone above and beyond to support young people, their families, and her team. She adapted her support to meet individual needs, ensuring equity, flexibility, and inclusion, and worked closely with families and education to maintain progress outside of sessions.
Her dedication has had life-changing impact—a parent described that, without Ruth’s intervention, their child could have developed serious mental health problems. She also supports her team through challenging periods, volunteering for extra duties, ensuring timely care, and demonstrating kindness, integrity, and teamwork. Ruth’s commitment and work ethic make her an invaluable asset to families and HDFT.
Sean Martin – Data Engineer
Sean went above and beyond during a tight deadline. Even after moving into a new role Sean continued supporting the data updates until everything was complete. Sean’s efficiency, patience, and positive attitude ensured the Trust could submit on time. Sean’s professionalism and commitment made a real difference and was truly appreciated.
Lynn Hollingsworth – Health Care Assistant, Day Surgery Unit
Lynn plays a key role in the Day Surgery Unit team. She is hardworking, conscientious, and a true team player. She approaches every task with maximum effort and is an excellent mentor to new starters and students.
She works with integrity, often doing the unseen tasks that keep the department running smoothly. Most importantly, Lynn always puts patients first, showing care and empathy at every stage of their journey.
Marius Ratoi – Porter, HIF
Marius consistently makes a positive difference in his role. On a particularly busy ED night shift, he singlehandedly retrieved hospital beds and supported patients safely. His calm, caring approach, energy, and dedication embody our Trust values and make a real impact every day.
Joshua Wilson – Porter, HIF
Josh consistently goes above and beyond in his role and is always polite, helpful and approachable. He takes on every task with a positive, can-do attitude and a genuine willingness to support others, making him a valued and reliable team player.
He consistently demonstrates the Trust’s KITE values through his kindness, professionalism, and cheerful nature. Josh regularly receives positive feedback from the departments he works with, who greatly value his friendly manner and dependable approach.
Carrie Winter – Domestic Assistant, HIF
Carrie was nominated in recognition of her dedication and commitment to supporting the department. Carrie selflessly cancelled her annual leave to cover absence, ensuring the service continued to run smoothly.
Carrie completes her work to a very high standard and can always be relied upon. Her professionalism, flexibility, and strong work ethic make her a valued member of the team.

Sally Beastall – Specialist Occupational Therapist
Sally provides outstanding care across the surgical and acute wards. She works with compassion, inclusivity, and respect, ensuring every patient feels valued, heard and supported, regardless of background or diagnosis.
A powerful example of Sally’s impact was her work with an anxious patient recovering from colorectal surgery. By taking time to understand their trauma, adapting her approach, and involving them in goal-setting and decision-making, Sally built trust and supported remarkable progress in recovery. She also included the patient’s family, creating a safe and supportive environment.
Out of Hours Health Care Assistants – James Dube, Pauline Oliver, Stacey Perkins, Karen Price, Sarah Wornsop & Susan Bell.
They were nominated in recognition of their consistent dedication and outstanding demonstration of the KITE values.
Every shift, they show exceptional kindness, compassion, and professionalism, supporting colleagues through complex situations while keeping patients at the heart of everything they do. Their knowledge, calm approach, and proactive support create a safer, more positive environment for all.

Kate Moore – Recruitment and Communications Marketing Assistant.
Kate is a highly valued colleague who consistently demonstrates a remarkable work ethic and a flexible, solutions-focused approach. She readily adapts her priorities to meet the evolving needs of the wider directorate, always doing so with professionalism and good judgement. Kate’s kindness and respect for others are evident in her day-to-day interactions, and she naturally embodies the Trust’s values in everything she does. Her commitment, adaptability, and positive attitude make a meaningful difference to both colleagues and services, and she is thoroughly deserving of this recognition.
Shelly Vipond – Surgical Breast Care Nurse, General Surgery
Shelly was nominated by a patient who said that during their surgery and time as a patient the Surgical Breast Care Nurses were exceptional — with Shelly standing out in particular.
They described Shelly as kind, warm, and incredibly reassuring, always making them feel better when raising questions or concerns. Her care was described as unmatched, going above and beyond to make their experience as positive as possible.
They felt anyone would be fortunate to have Shelly as their Breast Care Nurse and expressed deep gratitude for the ongoing support she continues to provide.
Sharon Swanwick-Jones – Locality Manager, Rebecca Green – Family Health Practitioner, Wendy Myers – Family Health Practitioner, Jo Smales – Family Health Practitioner, Hayley Keeble – Family Health Practitioner, All Central 0-19 North Yorkshire.
Sharon is recognised for her compassionate and supportive leadership, bringing stability to the team, boosting morale, and creating a positive and encouraging environment where colleagues feel valued and supported.
Becky, Wendy, Jo and Hayley are recognised for their outstanding teamwork and commitment. During a challenging period, they stepped forward to support colleagues across localities, ensuring families continued to receive timely reviews and demonstrating a strong sense of shared responsibility and dedication to high-quality care.
Dr Chris Byrne – FY1 Doctor
During a very busy shift, Chris prioritised a fast-track discharge for an end-of-life patient to return home. When it was discovered the community prescription chart had not arrived, Chris, despite being ready to finish his shift, personally delivered it to the care home.
He demonstrated excellent teamwork, kindness, and compassion, going above and beyond to support patient safety and ensure a smooth discharge.
Tom Wisdom – Specialist Physiotherapist
Tom consistently goes above and beyond to support colleagues, regularly supervising and mentoring new starters. Tom demonstrates kindness and integrity every day, offering a listening ear, practical support, and often staying late to answer bleeps to prioritise patient care and support the wider team. Tom’s dedication and compassion make a lasting difference to both patients and colleagues.
Jules Mortimer – Urgent Care Practitioner, Ripon Outpatients
Jules was nominated in recognition of her exemplary care in the Emergency Department. She provided calm, compassionate, and patient-centred support to a child and their parent during a stressful procedure, ensuring it caused minimal distress.
Jules consistently demonstrates teamwork and a supportive nature, earning excellent feedback and embodying the Trust’s KITE values in all she does.
Gillian Coombes – Staff Nurse, Ripon Outpatients and Shirley Hinchliffe – Staff Nurse, Ripon Outpatients
Shirley and Gillian consistently go above and beyond to support service users at Ripon Outpatients. They show genuine empathy and kindness, particularly towards elderly and frail patients, always taking time to listen and help address concerns.
They recently introduced a new noticeboard system in the hospital foyer, clearly showing clinic locations, timings, clinicians, and waiting areas. This simple but effective change has significantly reduced patient confusion, stress, and anxiety. A small change that has made a big difference — well done to them both!
Anne Harrison – Ward Clerk, Byland Ward
Anne consistently goes above and beyond to support both the team and patients. She is always punctual, polite, and exceptionally kind to patients and their families. Anne regularly helps to ease the team’s workload wherever she can, and her contribution is truly valued.
James Pollard – Senior Health Care Assistant, Elmwood Outpatients
James consistently goes above and beyond in his role, ensuring that consultants and doctors are well supported and, most importantly, that patients receive excellent care. He is a polite and compassionate individual who genuinely cares about both patients and colleagues. Nothing is ever too much trouble for him. He is a truly inspirational young man and an asset to the Trust.
Paula De Souza – Resuscitation Officer, Resuscitation Department
Paula is recognised for her compassionate leadership in supporting colleagues. Paula has led multidisciplinary debriefs, creating a safe and supportive space where team members could process their emotions and feel genuinely listened to. Paula took time to coordinate, facilitate, and follow up, ensuring everyone was offered the appropriate support. Her approach clearly demonstrated a commitment to valuing people, putting wellbeing first, and supporting teams through challenging experiences.
Charlotte O’Donovan – Professional Development and Fetal Wellbeing Lead
Charlotte facilitates and teaches maternity study days for midwives, obstetricians, anaesthetists, and maternity support workers with passion and dedication.
She consistently makes complex topics engaging, interactive and inclusive, drawing on her strong understanding of learning styles and clinical experience. Charlotte actively use feedback to improve future sessions and facilitate open, multidisciplinary discussions, ensuring learning is relevant and impactful.
The study days are valued by all who attend, and she is a real credit to the Maternity Professional Development Team
Kelly Dudding – Safeguarding Named Nurse, Children in Care, Tees Valley and Maria Makin – Data and Quality Analyst, Children in Care, Tees Valley
Kelly and Maria have worked tirelessly with the SystmOne and Business Intelligence teams to develop a tracker for the Tees Valley Children in Care Team, linking to Health Reviews to provide accurate performance data for the ICB. They identified and resolved issues with read codes on Review Health Assessment templates, ensuring key health surveillance data is available to monitor trends and inform commissioners and public health.
Kelly and Maria are proactive problem-solvers who have improved the way data is collected, analysed, and presented, reducing administrative time and producing insightful Power BI reports used in meetings and for Impact drivers. They consistently go above and beyond to provide the best quality service for children in care, demonstrating dedication, expertise, and humility.
Andrea Stark – Staff Nurse, Orthopaedics
Andrea consistently brings a professional and positive attitude to work, always supporting her colleagues and lifting morale, especially during challenging, short-staffed periods. She goes above and beyond to ensure everyone is supported, whether by checking colleagues have breaks, offering guidance, or staying late to help.
She demonstrates exceptional kindness and respect to both patients and colleagues, providing extra care, reassurance, and attention to every individual. Andrea shares her knowledge generously, teaches without judgment, and ensures patient safety is always prioritised.
Tracey Sydney – Lead Pharmacy Technician, Pharmacy Department
Tracey was nominated for going above and beyond in her Hospital at Home role. When a last-minute staffing issue arose, Tracey offered to come in on her day off and joined an ACP visit. She quickly identified that the patient was struggling to take his medications correctly, resulting in ongoing pain and reduced fluid intake. Tracey took immediate action: she reorganised his medications into a Medidose box, adjusted timings to align with carers, removed unnecessary medications, and liaised with the chemist to explore future changes.
Tracey’s dedication, problem-solving, and compassionate care had a significant, positive impact on the patient and were greatly appreciated by the Hospital at Home team. She truly went above and beyond.
Alison Silver – Domestic Assistant
Alison is approachable and always willing to offer advice and support to colleagues and patients. Alison will always guide patients and visitors who may be lost, doing so with a friendly and welcoming manner. Her positive attitude and willingness to help makes a real difference every day.
Sarah Sneddon – Domestic Assistant
Sarah is an invaluable part of the Silverdale team. As the morning domestic cleaner, she is always kind, happy, and helpful, consistently going above and beyond for the department. Her high standards ensure the area is always clean, tidy, and well maintained. Sarah is attentive and uses her initiative, regularly checking in with the team, ensuring supplies are topped up, and keeping areas such as the plaster room clean and safe throughout the morning. She is respectful, reliable, and always willing to help.
David Peckett – Domestic Assistant
David went above and beyond when fitting new curtains in one of the bays. The task was not straightforward, and David persevered and came up with practical solutions to ensure the curtains worked effectively and met the team’s needs. David’s professional, friendly manner was greatly appreciated, and thanks to his efforts the bay now looks welcoming and comfortable for patients.
Clare Peacock – Family Health Practitioner and Katie Clayton – Health Visitor, East 0-19 North Yorkshire
Clare was nominated by a colleague after receiving great feedback from a parent, they said “Right from the start, Clare has been incredibly helpful and caring. Clare has offered practical, helpful advice and reassured me that I could always reach out if I had concerns. She made the right referrals and followed up more than once to check that my son was getting the support he needed. She is a wonderful asset to your team and truly deserves recognition”.
Katie was nominated by a colleague who highlighted her outstanding safeguarding practice and commitment to children’s wellbeing. Katie sought safeguarding supervision for two vulnerable children and quickly identified that a required assessment had not been completed. Katie demonstrated the Trust’s values through her integrity, professional curiosity, and thorough risk assessment. She acted as a strong advocate for the children, ensuring their voices, safety and wellbeing remained the priority throughout.
Lisa Pedel – Assistant Security and Car Park Admin Manager
Lisa was nominated by a colleague for going above and beyond to support them on her day off. After they purchased a new car and were unsure how to update their vehicle details on the hospital database and app, Lisa promptly provided clear guidance and relevant links. When the colleague sent screenshots to check their progress, Lisa responded immediately to confirm everything was correct.
Lisa is highly knowledgeable about car parking processes and consistently goes the extra mile to support her colleagues. She is a valued contributor to the Trust and always happy to help.
Gemma Jeffery – Paediatric Epilepsy Specialist Nurse
Gemma consistently goes above and beyond for children, young people, and their families, taking the time to understand not only their clinical needs but also their lives, interests, and challenges. Gemma’s expertise and compassion have been particularly valued when supporting families from diagnosis through seizure stability and transition to adult services — a pathway she has helped develop to ensure young people are supported every step of the way.
In addition, Gemma is praised for her outstanding support as a practice assessor. She creates a welcoming, encouraging learning environment, supports students to grow in confidence and skill, and acts as a true role model for future nurses. Gemma’s commitment to patient care, education, and service development makes a lasting difference every day.
Leanne Henderson-Dove – Head of Contracts, Finance
Leanne led the introduction of a volunteer driver service at the hospital, improving patient experience and reducing taxi costs. Leanne also identified ways to use existing resources, such as GP OOH cars, to support the service, ensuring patients can get home more easily.
She consistently looks for opportunities to add value and support improvements, working with services to translate ideas into practical solutions. Her passion, dedication, and willingness to go beyond her core role makes a real difference to patients and colleagues alike.

Hannah Duffield – Sister/Charge Nurse, Acute Frailty Unit.
Hannah has introduced several quality improvements on the Acute Frailty Unit, including a Care Support Worker information folder to support staff in their roles, a ward discharge checklist to ensure nothing is missed, and emergency equipment boxes at each bed space to improve safety and readiness.
Hannah leads the ward with confidence and is a supportive, always helping colleagues when in charge. She works closely with other teams and manages admissions efficiently, helping the ward run smoothly. Her leadership and improvements have made AFU a safer and more effective environment for both patients and staff.
Meghna Mane – Information Analyst
Meghna, you are an exceptional member of the team who truly lives our Trust values. Your attention to detail, dedication, and willingness to go above and beyond have made a significant difference to the Tobacco Dependency Service.
You work closely with inpatient and maternity teams to ensure data accuracy, proactively identifying and resolving issues. When challenges arose with the NHSE Dashboard, your persistence and collaborative approach helped uncover a key data flow error — a true example of effective teamwork.
You recently developed a complex dataset for a readmission audit, working alongside colleagues throughout the process to ensure the outputs were meaningful, robust, and accurate. Your kindness, patience, and integrity are evident in everything you do.
Callum Poppit and Dianne Wallis – Staff Nurses, Knaresborough
Callum was nominated in recognition of his outstanding support during a particularly busy weekend. Callum went above and beyond, with nothing being too much trouble. His support with call-outs and assistance to the Harrogate teams was greatly appreciated.
Dianne was nominated in recognition of her exceptional care and support. The wife of a patient expressed her thanks to Dianne for the excellent care she provided to her husband and the support she offered to her. Dianne went the extra mile in helping them and demonstrated extensive knowledge in her work. Her care during visits was greatly appreciated.
Dr Jack McCready – Trust Doctor, Elderly Medicine
Jack was nominated in recognition of his outstanding contribution to students during their placement at Harrogate District Hospital. From the outset, he went above and beyond to provide guidance, teaching and support, creating a welcoming and encouraging learning environment.
His professionalism, kindness and approachability made a significant positive impact, and he consistently exemplifies the Trust’s values through his dedication to teaching and supporting students.
Thelma Sumaya – Staff Nurse, Byland Ward
Thelma is recognised for her dedication, compassion, and commitment to patient care. She consistently goes above and beyond to ensure patients comfort and wellbeing. Thelma is particularly noted for her attention to detail and compassion when caring for patients with leg ulcers, taking extra time to ensure dressings are clean and secure. Her kindness, professionalism, and dedication make a real difference to both patients and colleagues.
Soumya Jose – Care Support Worker
Soumya was nominated in recognition of the positivity, kindness, and teamwork she brings to AFU every day. She is a wonderful Care Support Worker who is always smiling, patient, and willing to go out of her way to help colleagues, brightening the ward with her cheerful attitude.
She was also praised by a nurse from another ward who highlighted Soumya as a real team player, supporting fellow CSWs and helping to make the shift enjoyable and well-coordinated. Her efforts reflect the strong teamwork culture on AFU and make a genuine difference to colleagues and patients alike.
Ruth Marley – Staff Nurse, Sir Robert Ogden Mac Millen Centre
Ruth has made a remarkable impact through her compassion, professionalism, and patient-centred care. She consistently demonstrates the Trust values in everything she does.
She recently supported a young patient who was extremely anxious and frail, taking the time to listen, reassure, and advocate for their needs. Ruth worked proactively with colleagues and the consultant to ensure the patient felt safe, supported, and fully cared for during a very distressing time.
Alongside her empathy, Ruth shows excellent teamwork — communicating clearly, liaising with the wider MDT, and seeking guidance appropriately as she develops her skills. Her calm, kind approach has already made a real difference to patients and colleagues.

Minire Zjaqa – Nutritional Assistant, Acute Frailty Unit
Minire is a true asset to the Acute Frailty Unit. She is hardworking, knowledgeable, and kind. In her dual roles as a Nutritional Assistant and a CSW, she frequently supports the ward by stepping in to help with care tasks even when she is working in her nutritional role. She consistently offers help to her colleagues, no matter how busy she is, and demonstrates the KITE values every day. We are incredibly fortunate to have her on the team.
Emma Andralojc – Clinical Support Worker, Same Day Emergency Care
Emma was nominated by her colleagues in recognition of her outstanding contribution to quality improvement within the Same Day Emergency Care unit. She has played a key role in developing and delivering the SDEC Complexity Score project, aligned with the Trust’s True North and IMPACT framework. Going far beyond expectations for her role, Emma has shown exceptional initiative, creativity, and analytical skill.
Emma consistently demonstrates excellent clinical skills and a compassionate approach to patient care. Her drive to improve systems for the benefit of both patients and staff truly sets her apart. Emma is an exceptional colleague who embodies continuous improvement and collaborative working.
Dr Peter Hammond – Consultant Diabetes & Endocrinology
Dr Hammond was nominated by a patient who told us that through Peter’s reassurance, patience, and kindness — alongside his expert guidance on insulin pump and continuous glucose monitoring — they gained the confidence and skills to manage their condition effectively. They have since welcomed a healthy baby boy, with Peter’s expertise and encouragement described as central to making this possible. His compassionate, supportive approach has made a truly life-changing difference, for which the patient is deeply grateful.
Sharon Middleton – Staff Nurse, Orthopaedic Outpatients
Sharon was nominated by her colleagues in recognition of her remarkable 46 years of service in the NHS — an incredible career dedicated to making a difference in the lives of countless patients. Sharon has demonstrated unwavering professionalism, compassion, and commitment. She consistently delivers the highest standards of care, always going above and beyond to support her patients, regardless of their background or circumstances. Her dedication and kindness have left a lasting impact on everyone she has worked with. We celebrate not just her outstanding career, but the legacy of care and compassion she leaves behind.
Dr Hussein Nassar – Cardiology Specialist
Dr Nassar consistently goes above and beyond for patients, always putting their care first. He brings positivity to the cardiology team, provides clear guidance to support patient pathways, and regularly takes part in super-clinics. His kindness, teamwork, and empathy shine through every day, making him a highly valued member of the cardiology team and the wider Trust.
Barbara Leach (Patient’s daughter)
Barbara was nominated in recognition of her efforts during the COVID pandemic. She single-handedly organised an incredible group of volunteers to make headbands, scrubs, love hearts and countless other items to help keep patients and staff at Harrogate as safe as possible.
She devoted extraordinary time and effort to this work — sourcing fabrics, coordinating with local businesses and managing all aspects of the project. She even transformed her own front porch into a safe, infection-controlled pick-up and drop-off centre. When the demand for scrubs increased, she worked with experienced seamstresses and businesses to ensure everything was produced to the highest safety standards.
The impact of her efforts went far beyond the items themselves. The handmade headbands and scrubs provided comfort, reassurance and a sense of care during a time of fear and uncertainty. Her compassion, initiative and selfless commitment made a real difference to staff and patients alike — a gesture that will never be forgotten.
Hollie Haycock – Family Health Practitioner, North Yorkshire Virtual Team
Hollie is an exceptional colleague whose kindness, integrity, and unwavering commitment to teamwork sets her apart. She goes above and beyond every day, making a profound and positive impact on the team.
A true team player, Hollie ensures workloads are shared fairly and is always the first to offer help when a colleague needs support. She recently took on the additional responsibility of managing the Airmid system and often steps in to cover during staff sickness, ensuring patient care and service delivery are never compromised.
Her proactive approach and selflessness ease pressure on the team, prevent issues from escalating, and help the service run smoothly. Hollie’s tireless work ethic, compassion, and dedication to others make her a shining example of the values this award celebrates.
Jackie Edwards – Fast Track Patient Coordinator
Jackie has dedicated many years of her career to the NHS. Most recently at Harrogate Hospital, she has been instrumental in managing patient appointments with exceptional care and precision.
Jackie has shown remarkable tenacity and an unwavering commitment to ensuring patients receive the right care at the right time. Dr Khan established the EBUS service, enabling earlier diagnosis for lung cancer patients and significantly improving outcomes. His work was recognised at the ERS Congress 2025.
After training in York, he arranged further training for MDU nurses, and now all Harrogate respiratory consultants are able to carry out EBUS procedures. His leadership and dedication have transformed services and strengthened care for patients.

Bethany shows real commitment and kindness—for example, when medication was added late to a TTO and an ambulance was already booked, she literally ran to pharmacy to make sure everything was ready in time. Rachel brings a warm smile and a positive “can do” attitude every day. On one particularly busy Friday, when the team managed 16 discharges, she was spot on with the TTOs, helping the whole process run smoothly. A recent example of your impact includes your support for a family with a child with additional. On two separate occasions, you went to extraordinary lengths to ensure the child did not go without nutrition — contacting GPs, liaising with dietitians, securing prescriptions, and even travelling out of area to collect supplies discreetly. Your compassion, persistence, and advocacy prevented a family from going into crisis and demonstrated your deep commitment to providing safe, equitable, and person-centred care.

Mr. Kampourakis kindly covered a cancer clinic at short notice, preventing cancellations and the distress this would have caused for patients. Shirley Brown – Health Visitor, Durham Soth
Shirley recognised early on that a child in her care might need specialist support with social communication and acted promptly, arranging referrals to a paediatrician, speech therapy, and audiology.
Despite her busy caseload, she gave the family the time and care they needed, working closely with colleagues in a multidisciplinary way. She also provided detailed evidence for the child’s Education, Health and Care Plan, which was approved on the first application and led to a specialist school placement.
The family are deeply grateful for Shirley’s dedication, kindness, and unwavering support.
Lizzie Underwood – Midwife, Community
Lizzie was involved in the care of a vulnerable maternity service user. With support from her team, Lizzie went above and beyond to provide safe, kind and compassionate care. This included accompanying the service user to external appointments and ensuring that they had appropriate follow-up when they were transferred to another trust. Lizzie is a wonderful example of a member of staff who has gone the extra mile to support a service user.
Rebecca Hardaker – Qualified in Specialty Neonatal Nurse, Special Care Baby Unit
When Becky joined SCBU, she brought with her a brilliant idea for a Quality Improvement project—‘Neonatal Journey Beads’. Inspired by another unit, Becky was passionate about introducing it here and has led the project with real dedication. Now, all babies on SCBU receive journey beads, with each bead representing a milestone or event during their stay. These beads tell a story of strength, resilience, and courage. The feedback from families has been overwhelmingly positive, and Becky’s project continues to make a meaningful and lasting difference to their experience on the unit.

Giles Latham – Communications and Marketing Manager
Giles was nominated for his outstanding work in ensuring the Trust website met Government Digital Service (GDS) accessibility standards. Faced with a significant number of required changes, he tackled the task with patience, professionalism, and a proactive attitude—despite it being on top of his usual workload. He maintained strong communication with the GDS, collaborated with other Trusts to identify best practice, and even manually updated complex documents where needed.
This work started in February, and Giles completed and received final sign-off of approval in June. His resilience, integrity, and commitment to equality ensured the Trust achieved full accessibility approval—demonstrating his ‘can do’ approach and dedication to improving inclusion across the organisation.

Sharon was nominated by a colleague in recognition of her exceptional leadership and dedication in delivering the new digital catering order system. Nicki went the extra mile to help an audiology patient who was struggling to understand how to respond during their hearing test due to having severe dementia.
Nicki assisted the audiologist using a soft toy teddy bear as a tool for the patient to hold up when they could hear the noise. Nicki kept the patient distracted and calm which meant the full hearing test could be completed. The patient’s relative was grateful as previously it had been frustrating and stressful for them both. The audiologist was really grateful for the innovative idea that Nicki used to complete the task. Certainly Nicki went over and beyond her normal duties.

Gillian Ranson
Gillian went above and beyond to implement a valuable change within the eye clinic. She identified that training nurses to measure intraocular pressure (IOP) using the handheld iCare device could save doctors time and improve patient flow.
She developed and delivered a training programme for all trained nurses in the department—often using her own time to ensure everyone had access. What began as a benefit for the Laser clinic is now improving efficiency across all ophthalmology clinics, enhancing both staff workflow and patient experience.

For Maternal Mental Health Week, Tabby spent her own time creating thoughtful goodie bags for mothers, filled with self-care items and support information. She also makes personalised bunting for babies, helps families create hand and footprints, and prepares special cards for occasions like Mother’s Day and Easter. Her efforts to decorate the ward and make it feel like home play a big part in supporting our gold UNICEF Baby Friendly accreditation. Tabby truly makes a difference for every family she meets.
Dr Karim Elsayed – Glaucoma Fellow
Mr Elsayed consistently goes above and beyond. He is approachable, supportive, and generous with his time. Although not on-call himself, Mr Elsayed stayed over three hours after his clinic had ended to provide urgent care, recognising that his expertise was needed. He calmly managed a complex situation, performed the necessary procedure, and ensured the patient was stable before leaving.

Anna Newton Clarke – Acute Frailty Fellow
Anna has gone above and beyond to develop the Acute Frailty Unit, nurturing residents and ensuring the best possible care for patients and carers. She led the CHARMER research trial far beyond the initial three months, continuing to collect data, teach, and promote across the Trust.
Anna has played a key role in improving discharges from the unit through quality improvement work, resulting in sustained change. Anna has presented her work to the directorate and board, and is now looking to expand her project Trust-wide.
Bryony Whiting – Sister/Charge Nurse

David Forrest – Community Liaison Anchor, Wakefield
As a Community Anchor and co-chair of the LGBT+ Staff Network, David is an outstanding staff wellbeing advocate. In his recent updates, he has promoted key messages such as stress awareness and highlighted upcoming wellbeing events through creative posters and agendas.
He has also supported colleagues in Wakefield to make use of NHS staff wellbeing resources, like the Looking After Your Team Wellbeing Guide. David treats every colleague with warmth and respect, and is truly an amazing wellbeing ally.

Over recent months, she has taken on extra responsibilities to cover colleague absence and consistently goes above and beyond to assist both the ward and ward manager. Notably, Zoe rearranged her own family plans to accept an equipment delivery so a patient could be discharged earlier—saving the Trust four bed nights. Her commitment, flexibility and support have not gone unnoticed and her contributions are deeply appreciated.
Jess Large – Specialist Physiotherapist, Respiratory Acute Therapy
Jess was nominated for going above and beyond to support a newly diagnosed MND patient, offering empathy, emotional support, and even bringing in her own iPad to help provide comfort. She also supported the patient’s family through a very difficult time.
Philippa Bleasdale – Advanced Biomedical Scientist, Histopathology
Philippa has shown utmost care for patients in her successful bid to secure funding for an AI system to reduce turnaround time for some breast cancer Histopathology work from around 11 days to around 2 days. Her passion for improving patient care and determination to make a difference has truly shone through.
Robin Kehoe – Nurse Practitioner, Emergency Department
Robin was nominated by a patient after providing exceptional care in our Emergency Department. The patient praised Robin’s kindness, humour, and clinical skill which not only made the patient feel safe and reassured but also led to a smooth recovery without the need for surgery. Thank you, Robin, for going above and beyond and truly making a difference!
Martine Hartley – Ward Manager, Granby.
Martine has supported her team with quality improvement projects. Creating stroke information boards on the ward for our patients and their visitors, supported the stroke practitioner to develop and roll out a stroke passport, ward information booklets and has worked tirelessly to ensure that all quality and patient safety standards are achieved and maintained on the ward.
Martine has developed a fundamentals of care board, to ensure that the ward is constantly learning from events, concerns and always striving for excellence. Martine always achieves over 90% for her matron monthly tenable audits, which are also peer reviewed and has managed 6 months without any patient complaints.
Granby has recently being awarded 4 KITEs in their ward accreditation audit with them being the first and only ward within LTUCC to achieve this, which shows what a great place Granby is to work and also a safe place for our patients.
Martine has worked hard to ensure that the ward is fully established and that staff are retained by creating a compassionate and caring workforce that pulls together as a team.

Sarah has gone above and beyond to support the team and patients over the last few years, with a friendly and positive attitude.
The team has valued all of her efforts and what a difference she has made to patients and colleagues along the way.
Despite challenges with minimal staffing and long waiting lists, Sarah has adapted her role to what is needed and gone the extra mile to support patients, families/carers and colleagues.

Kandi has established herself as a fantastic educator and team player. Kandi puts her all into her work and is incredibly passionate about the experience the student nurses have here at HDFT, she is particularly passionate about ensuring student nurses not only achieve their proficiencies but also that they understand the importance of the quality of care that patients receive and the value of true compassion.
The team have received wonderful feedback about Kandi in line with the trusts values. Kandi truly works to the trust values every day and going above and beyond to support both the students and her HDFT colleagues.

Ethel Catli – Care Support Worker, Granby
Ethel makes sure all the routine jobs are done to a high standard. When colleagues come onto the ward in the morning, the ward is very tidy and everything is in an orderly manner. When Ethel is aware that you are short staffed in the morning, she will take on extra jobs to ensure you start on a good note. Ethel always goes the extra mile to make a difference and ensure good quality work for the sake of the patients and colleagues. Taking over from Ethel is always a joy because you know everything is in a good place.

Lori, has quickly excelled in her role and made a difference!
Lori has worked with a family facing challenges and has secured local authority funding for the young person to attend activities at Family Hubs, helping him integrate into the community, make new friends, and increasing physical activity.
Additionally, Lori secured further funding to allow the family to purchase clothing, to further support their wellbeing and make a difference to the family.

Emma goes above and beyond every day in her role and is an integral part of the LTUCC team. The Matrons and senior management team say they’d be completely lost without her. Nothing is ever too much trouble—Emma consistently promotes safe, effective care and drives positive change. She champions HDFT’s No Blame Culture and involves staff at all levels in quality improvement, making her role both accessible and invaluable across the team.

Ganesh, Lauren, Roshina, Sana and Bency were nominated in recognition of their extra efforts to demonstrate teamwork. When a colleague became unwell Bency and Lauren offered to support Ganesh in meeting the needs of these patients. Additionally, Roshina and Sana also supported Ganesh with patients booked across theatres and clinic on that day. Colleagues proceeded urgently with the acute procedure alongside the pre-booked cases to avoid unnecessary delays or cancellations.
Colleagues went above and beyond to demonstrate both teamwork and equality, they worked dynamically as a team to minimise cancellations which shows their commitment to improving outcomes for all patients, in line with Trust values.

Jayne received great feedback from a family who said they have valued Jaynes input, and consistent support over the years. Jayne has made so much difference to their sons life, and indeed to the whole family.

Michelle is a fantastic leader; she consistently goes above and beyond in her role, offering unwavering support to colleagues and creating an environment of positivity and collaboration.
Recently Michelle took the lead in embracing the Project Search programme into PSCC, supporting and mentoring. Michelle is the first to offer a listening ear, provide guidance, or step in to help with tasks, no matter how big or small. Michelle really is the glue that holds the PSC directorate together.
Tristan Roche – Kitchen Porter, Matthew Williams – Kitchen Porter and Christopher Long – Catering Assistant
Tristan, Mathew and Christopher are always cheery and ready to help out with the serving of meals, or other kitchen duties, if we are short staff here in Ripon. They use their initiative if there is a problem with food orders, as well as providing an invaluable link between the main kitchen in Harrogate and the satellite kitchen here in Ripon.
The boys worked especially hard over the Christmas period, bringing extra Christmas cheer and provisions for all to enjoy at a difficult and extremely busy time.
They are our unsung heroes, and I just wanted them to know they are appreciated.
Stuart Annakin – Driver, HHFM Transport
Stuart is always very helpful at the friary. A patient fell as he was leaving, and Stuart made sure she was okay, supported her as well as getting a wheelchair to ensure she was safe.
Stuart also went out of his way to make sure that some samples were delivered to our pathology department. He is a credit to your service.
Carol Wilson – Sister/Charge Nurse, Day Surgery Unit
Carol has been at HDFT for 47 years. It’s a testament to her service to the NHS and this organisation. The best word to describe carol is dutiful. Over her 47 years here she has been an outstanding role model, an expert of her craft and the perfect soundboard to speak to if ever in doubt. Her commitment to the day surgery team has been paramount to the department especially over the last few years since the pandemic as one of our wellbeing champions. Amy Howard – Neonatal Educator and Governance Lead, Special care Baby Unit
Amy is the epitome of hard working and so incredibly knowledgeable in the area of Neonates. She has a calm head and is a brilliant problem solver.
Amy is a champion for the baby friendly initiative and ensures parents are at the forefront of the minds of the SCBU staff, always advocating for the baby and the parents. Amy has supported not only her neonatal team but also our maternity staff through some difficult events. Amy has held a number of debriefs to bring together staff involved and has continued to support colleagues since. The Special Care Baby Unit is most definitely a better unit having Amy as part of the team.
Dr Luke Simpson – Acute Frailty Fellow
Luke is a real credit to the AFU team. He is a kind, supportive and approachable member of the team.
Recently, Luke had stayed 2 hours over his scheduled shift to care for a patient who was acutely unwell. Luke provided A* care to this patient and, did not once complain about being late off of his shift.
Luke’s approach to patient care is one to be admired. Luke is very much appreciated by all of the team on the Acute Frailty Unit.
James Ezenwafor – Care Support Worker, Oakdale
James is consistently uplifting, polite and a great team player. James is always willing and nothing is ever too much trouble for him. He has blended into the team well and creates a safe atmosphere for both staff and patients. James is a breath of fresh air on the ward and so many patients and colleagues have complimented on his well-mannered behaviour. James truly represents the KITE values.
Nicola DeBond – Clinical Effectiveness Administrator, Quality and Safety
There has been recent changes to the work done by the Compliance and Clinical Standards Teams. Nicola has made such a difference by being super helpful and supportive in making these changes as easy as possible.
She has made sure that files and instructions were up to date, completed a handover to staff and is providing ongoing support.
Nicola has shown great kindness and teamwork, and her “can do” attitude and enthusiasm make it a pleasure to work with her.

Lindsay Caygill – Research Nurse
Lindsay was nominated in recognition of going the extra mile to support a patient. Lindsay was going to see a research participant and happened to bump into a different patient who looked very unwell.
Lindsay went out of her way to ensure the patient was assessed by the appropriate team The patient had blood tests, and ended up being admitted to hospital.
Lindsay went the extra mile to support the needs of the patient, and the team on SROMC, in achieving what was best for this patient.
Jo Berry – Stores Practitioner, Endoscopy
Jo has transformed the way the department orders, receives and stores all the extremely niche Endoscopy products.
It is difficult job because as soon as Jo has topped up one area, it all gets used so quickly and is soon gone. Jo has made an extremely huge difference to the working day of the endoscopy department ensuring efficiency and safety.
Jo has forged excellent working relations with the whole nursing team, various product companies and reps, consultants and procurement and stores. Jo is truly valued by the whole Endoscopy Team.
Charlotte Hutchison – Department Manager-Lead Nurse, SDEC
Charlotte is an incredibly passionate and caring nurse, as well as a wonderful aspiring leader.
Charlotte has brought forward lots of new improvement ideas, has been championing SDEC’s IMPACT work and improvement huddles, as well as being so focused on the staff and their wellbeing.
She is a kind, approachable staff member who would always go above and beyond for anyone who needed her support.

Olivia Belcher – Physiotherapist, ARCH
Olivia went above and beyond to facilitate a discharge from AFU after the ambulance service put a block on transport meaning the patient could no longer go home.
This was particularly important given that if this lady didn’t go home that day she would lose her package of care, meaning a prolonged hospital stay while this was being resourced.
Olivia immediately agreed to help and assist the patient home in a taxi. Olivia assisted the patient into to her flat and settled her in, despite this meaning she stayed later that her shift finishing.
Olivia is always willing to help no matter what the problem is in order to support others.
The patient was so grateful to Olivia for going above and beyond.
Ruth Whitehead – Urgent Care Practitioner, Emergency Department
Ruth was nominated in recognition of her support to her colleagues. Ruth voluntarily came in to work a shift in ED2 so that a member of the team was not left to work alone. Ruth was so selfless and displayed such an embodiment of kindness, personal integrity, and teamwork. Ruth’s actions truly made a difference.
Agnes Gugnacka-Cook – Nutritional Assistant, Farndale
Agnes has made such a huge impact to the team and has absolutely excelled in her role as a Nutritional Assistant. She is hardworking, dedicated and always cheery; and she has single-handedly helped improve the safety standards on Farndale with her dedication to patient weights and meticulous referrals to dieticians and the Speech and Language Team. Agnes goes above and beyond to help our patients get the nutrition they need and we are very grateful.
Richard Bryer – Charge Nurse, Special Care baby Unit
Richard is a consistently hardworking and supportive member of the Woodlands team. Richard is keen to support and teach and puts himself out to support patients and their parents through truly distressing situations.
His enthusiasm, passion and attention to his colleague’s wellbeing have always been outstanding qualities.
Richard absolutely shines when he works to support patients in the SEND demographic, his approach is so caring, understanding and nuanced, everyone could learn from Richards’s excellent approach to delivering care in these scenarios. Rich is someone that makes everyone feel positive and supported on shift, he does Woodlands and the Paediatric team proud.

Ashlea Costello – Community Midwife
Ashlea goes above and beyond in her care for vulnerable women, she has been a constant support to those women, who may have otherwise had none. Ashlea embodies the trusts values in all that she does.
Ashlea recently went above and beyond whilst caring for a patient as her named community midwife. Ashlea took the lead in organising her care, liaising with the safeguarding teams and other agencies to ensure the woman was safe and cared for throughout. She consistently followed this up to ensure that the woman’s specific health and social care needs were being met. This included cancelling some training so she could attend the woman’s birth as her birth partner.
Ashlea made a huge difference to the woman’s experience, helping her feel safe and supported.
Beth Hamer – Community Administrator, Fysche Hall Clinic (Top right, second from left)
Beth has supported the community nursing team several times during the bad weather by volunteering to take nurses in her 4×4 to patients in the community, who may not have been able to be seen otherwise.
This was particularly important as one of these patients was palliative and it was essential that they were seen to ensure the continuity of care at the end of their life.

Victoria Mercer – Assistant Point of Care Testing Practitioner
Victoria was asked to provide a large amount of data collection from various Afinion machines used by the diabetes research team throughout the past 5 years.
Victoria went the extra mile to collate this data within the given time frame in addition to her usual workload.
Victoria is very approachable and delivers training sessions with deep knowledge and confidence, and continues to be professional with a smile on her face.
Darcy Cope – Health Visitor, Stockton 0-19 and Jacqui Pearse – Health Visitor, Stockton 0-19 (Pictured first and second from the left)
Darcy was nominated in recognition of the work she has done to support one of the families she is working with. The work she has done has really evidence our HDFT trust values in order to really support the child and their parents.
Darcy has used her position of trust to advocate for the whole family in order to get the best possible outcome for the child.
Darcy received positive feedback from the Safeguarding team around her professional management of this case.
Jacqui was nominated in recognition of her support shown to a mother who was in emotional distress due to extreme dental pain, which was having a detrimental impact on her maternal mood. Jacqui recognised she needed another medical review and advocated for this lady by contacting a local dentist and securing her a same day urgent dental appointment. Jacqui has demonstrated the HDFT values such as kindness, equality and integrity within her position to ensure this lady received the most appropriate treatment and care.
Nicky Stephenson – Trauma Coordinator, Orthopaedics
Nicky was nominated in recognition of her incredible efforts during the snow and Ice in Harrogate. The ice particularly has caused havoc and a vast number of injuries that have required surgery overwhelming the system.
Despite the vast workload Nicky has thrown herself into the melee as a patient advocate, helping them to navigate the system, providing reassurance and always being on hand for advice as a point of contact.
In addition to this Nicky has ensured that every single patient has been seen and treated by the appropriate surgeon with the appropriate expertise.
Without the hard work and dedication shown by Nicky there would still be a lot of patients waiting, in pain and at home for their treatment. Nicky is an incredible human and an absolute asset to the Orthopaedic department and to the Trust as a whole.
Anne-Marie Cook – Service Manager, Gateshead
Anne-Marie has supported Middlesbrough to implement the 0-5 tool and is now supporting Gateshead to implement the 5-19 tool, as well as supporting Stockton.
This tool enables teams to have a fair equitable allocation of work. It supports with safer staffing and in turn supports staff well-being and health.
Nothing is too much trouble and Anne-Marie is always there to answer any questions and takes time out of her busy day to ensure we are fully supported.
Donna Scott – Emotional Resilience Nurse, Durham
Donna has supported countless children, young people and families across County Durham making a difference in their lives. Despite the challenges of meeting the needs of her own caseload, supporting families timely, she always has time for her peers in her team.
Donna is both respected and liked by her HDFT colleagues and also colleagues across other partnership. The nature of the work the team does can be very emotive and Donna is always there to offer a listening ear to promote staff health and wellbeing. She is always there to offer “kindness” a, hug and a listening ear, which on an emotive difficult day, makes such a difference to the team.
Laura Smith – Specialist Nurse, Sir Robert Ogden MacMillan Centre
Laura was nominated in recognition of her exceptional handling of a recent PICC line issue. Laura coordinated a timely and appropriate response to this significant issue: all affected patients were identified; risk assessments were undertaken in conjunction with the patient’s Consultant; and individual plans were made.
Laura organised difficult, but honest and transparent conversations. Laura demonstrates the Trust’s kite values on a daily basis and is a wonderful and inspiring role model to the SACT team.
Rikki-Lee Paley – Appointment Coordinator
Rikki-Lee is consistently professional and always striving to do her best, with the children and their families at the forefront of her work.
Rikki-Lee shows attention to detail and organised in the way she works, which is crucial for the efficient delivery of our service. She always demonstrates logical and methodical approaches and always considers the bigger picture, which has a significant impact on how the team functions.
Since Rikki Lee has started in this new role within the department, she has been like a breath of fresh air.
She has made the booking process for paediatric appointments so much easier and she is always helpful in finding solutions to support parents and us as clinicians.
Her approach to work has had such a massive impact on the quality of care that families receive. She is extremely approachable and is always willing to help.

Alice and Heather display the KITE values in their day-to day practice towards patients and colleagues alike. Both colleagues have exemplary kind and empathetic ‘bed-side’ manner and have had numerous positive feedback from patients and relatives regarding their kindness, professional attitude and thorough explanation when seen/assessed by Alice and Heather.
Alice and Heather achieve collaborative teamwork and continue to empower the nursing team and support them with upskilling on the ward as well as gaining further knowledge to manage our complex groups of patients on the ward.

John was nominated at the request of two family members of a patient who sadly passed away.
The family members said that John was so kind, caring and compassionate as they were extremely stressed with what was a truly awful time for them. In their words they said John made a world of difference to their experience and they would like him to receive this award in their fathers memory as they felt he deserved this recognition.
Jude Watson – Urgent Care Practitioner, Harrogate
Jude provides amazing support to the Urgent Care Practitioners who deliver Minor Care Services across Ripon and Harrogate.
She has been key in helping to deliver the continued development of these teams utilising her own experience and knowledge to enable the growth of both staff and services.
Jude is an excellent role model who has the patient at the centre of all she does.
Clare Asquith – Discharge Coordinator
Clare was nominated by a patient relative who said Clare was extremely kind to my sister. My sister has been in hospital/Lascelles since last November and at some point during that time Clare had spoken to her and found out that my sister loves Freddie Mercury. Before we knew it Clare delivered a painting of Freddie of Mercury, framed, for my sister to keep. My sister loves the painting and is constantly looking at it and smiling. Clare went above and beyond the call of duty.
Ginelle Clough – Community Anchor, Northumberland 0-19 Service
Ginelle has worked tirelessly to support 0-19 colleagues with their working day.
This has included the compilation of a service directory to save time for staff trying to make onward referrals to other services, organising the monthly professional forum which includes staff thoughts around which speakers or presentations would be most beneficial to their practice, and has recently developed and embedded a multiagency housing pathway to support staff.
During mental health awareness week Ginelle worked extremely hard to give staff opportunities to get together to enjoy a variety of tasks throughout the week. This included a quiz, mindful colouring and a bake off.
Elaine Iredale – Health Visitor, Northumberland
Elaine has gone above and beyond to support a number of families during a difficult time. Elaine really has been an example of the best that health visiting can offer.
Elaine has kept the children front and centre throughout, ensuring that her contribution to the legal processes was child focussed, none judgemental and empathetic.
Elaine is commended for her personal resilience when dealing with extremely emotive issues and continually striving to achieve the best outcomes for children in her care.

Amy was nominated in recognition of her unwavering dedication, transformative influence, and unmatched ability to foster a supportive and collaborative environment. Amy is not just a leader but a role model, a problem solver, and an unshakable pillar of support for the team.
Victoria Maddison – Health Visitor, Durham East
Victoria was contacted by a parent who had previously been on her caseload and had transferred out of Durham. The parent didn’t not have any contact details for the new health visitor. Victoria supported the woman to manage the crisis and get the help she needed
Victoria rearranged her workload with the help of her colleagues to enable her to support the woman, ensuring both mum and baby were safeguarded and provided the woman with trusting support and advice. Victoria was able to get mental health crisis support for the woman in the area she now lived and spent several hours ensuring the woman and baby had the care they needed.
Victoria’s actions and support went above and beyond what was expected of her, she illustrated kindness and compassionate care.

Denise Kernen – Administration/Safeguarding Officer
Denise has recently taken on the role of a mentor to a business apprentice and new member of staff. Denise’s training is not only benefiting the new members of staff but also the team as a whole as the workload figures are reducing.
Workload in all areas are reducing as the training is effective this has provided the new starters with confidence and understanding of the roles and responsibilities.
Denise’s mentorship is also allowing processes to be questioned and checked to ensure they are up to date and reflect the needs of the business.
Callum Stewart – Sister/Charge Nurse, Farndale
Callum is a beacon of light in busy and acute situations. He consistently uplifts and strives for great care from himself and those around him. Callum listens to and pushes students to be the best they can be by helping you gain learning opportunities whether that be alongside him or elsewhere. Callum ensures that everybody is gaining what they can from the day whilst leading.
Hayden Nelson – Physiotherapist, ARCH Team
Hayden recently acted quickly when he found a patient with worrying neurological symptoms in the Fit2Sit area of ED. Having been called to do a mobility assessment in order for the patient to go home. Hayden noticed the patient was mildly confused and more unsteady than her baseline.
He promptly raised his concerns and pushed for a CT resulting in the patient receiving a quick diagnosis and was able to be transferred to Leeds for admission under their specialist stroke team.
Hayden remained calm and professional and acted as an advocate for this patient, using his expert knowledge and quick thinking to try and improve the outcome for the patient. He is a very valuable member of our ARCH team.
Tim Jarvis – Urgent Care Practitioner
Tim has recently joint the Emergency Department 2/Minors care team and has brought such an injection of positivity to the team.
The entire department are forever complimenting him on his approachability and upbeat attitude. He is supportive, knowledgeable and hard working. He regularly receives praise from patients complimenting him on the service provided.
Tim is really open minded and dynamic and adapts to the ever changing pressures in ED with enthusiasm. When the department is under pressure nothing is too much trouble and he regularly liaises with the team in ED 1 to offer help where possible.
Tim has a wealth of experience and is always sharing useful hints and tips that help shape service improvement and staff development.
Amanda Abley – Health Visitor, Durham East
Amanda was nominated by the parents she has been helping. Amanda has gained their trust, is working flexibly to meet their needs and supporting the parents with the aim of introducing new services when they are ready. They parents said Amanda is supportive, honest and has shown genuine care for their family. She is an outstanding example of Health Visiting and a credit to the NHS.
Dr Lauren Langham – Trust Doctor- Elderly Medicine
Lauren was nominated after receiving great feedback from a patient relative.
They were so thankful for the care you delivered with the upmost professionalism. You were empathetic, listened to concerns and documented appropriately which made a daunting time a little easier.
Kirsty Russell – Clinical Support Worker
Kirsty became a cascade trainer for a device to support her fellow colleagues in the department. During her performing the process Kirsty noticed a software issue that had occurred and highlighted possible changes to the process. This was relayed to the company who investigated and were able to fix the bugs in the software. This has improved things at our hospital but has changed the way the company carry out their processes. You have truly made a difference across the service and in many other hospitals.
Maria Tony – Sister/Charge Nurse, Escalation Ward
Maria has gone above and beyond to get the escalation ward ready in time for its opening, despite multiple challenges, the biggest one being the ward opening 4 weeks earlier than planned. Maria has been managing her previous role in outpatients as well as organising a new ward. Maria has worked tirelessly including calling in on her days off to donate her microwave from home for the staff to ensure they can prepare hot meals on their break. Maria has welcomed all the staff and ensured they all received a warm welcome and a thorough induction to the ward. Maria is regularly overheard praising staff for their hard work and support and is always kind and caring towards patients and their visitors. Maria upholds the trust values and behaviours and is a positive role model to her staff.
